Canada exists, just sayin’. We have Tim Hortons, and a cool Prime Minister, and Nissan Skylines. And there’s plenty of room, considering we’re one of the least densely populated countries on Earth.

If you know who gets elected, would I be allowed to seek refuge in Canada? I speak a little French as well if that would help persuade you to let me in.

It’s so rare, as an American, to look at a map of Canada that goes beyond the southern provinces. Such a massive country.....
![]() 03/01/2016 at 23:20 |

I consider Windsor a lame version of Detroit. It’s not as bad, but still easily the worst in Ontario.

I don’t know... Vancouver traffic just p***es me off and Victoria keeps piping their raw sewage into Puget Sound. I will give you points for all the really good and super cheap craft beer up there though.

![]() 03/01/2016 at 23:24 |

The Territories are basically like the territories of the US, they have a government, but they have to go through the federal government to do pretty much anything. Provinces have their own jurisdiction, territories do not.
![]() 03/01/2016 at 23:25 |

Territories are governed by the Federal Government, whereas Provinces have their own provincial government.

Actually, here in Northern Alberta (which is actually south of the centre of the province, don’t ask why), it’s actually quite nice. Temperatures have been in the single digits celsius for a few weeks now, and most of our snow is gone.

I’ve lived in NY and LA, and spent plenty of time in Miami and Chicago. Walking around in Detroit doesn’t cause me any more concern that it would in any other city, and if anything, I feel safer in most areas of Detroit I visit (Corktown, Midtown, Greektown, etc) because there are less crowds.

There really isn’t as much room as people imagine. The maps are not to scale, 90% of the population is within 100 miles of the US border, and most of the remainder is muskeg.
That said, I lived there for a while. The food was great and I lost weight like crazy on it. I also love Canadians and they can’t tell I’m not one of them, which is pretty awesome.
It’s too bad actual immigration is such a pain...

Honestly, if I moved from the U.S. to Canada, I think the hardest adjustment would be dealing with higher prices/reduced availability of goods ordered online. Shirts, energy bars, shoes, Soylent, etc. - things come to my door quickly and cheaply. But otherwise I could see myself enjoying British Columbia (or possibly Calgary if push came to shove) since I already live in the Pacific Northwest. Got any clerical jobs in accounts payable/accounts receivable?

Look, I love Canada. I love Tim Hortons. But here’s the thing, it’s cold. You still have snotty Quebecois. It’s cold. I have too many relatives there. Its cold. Frankly, Justin Trudeau is an idiot too. And I’d have to leave all my guns behind.

![]() 03/02/2016 at 09:49 |

I’d only have to move 42 miles, so it may be a consideration. I would still need, like, a job, and my prospects drop quickly on the other side of the border.

It’s really only mobile internet that sucks. I have 300GB/month at home for like $50CAD/month and a lot are unlimited now. Mobile on the other hand is stupid. I have a shitload of data and I have 6GB/month. The norm is like 2. And it’s mega expensive to have a lot. I have just had my plan for so long that it’s still somewhat affordable.
![]() 03/02/2016 at 11:51 |
|
Yes, Tim Horton’s is great. You don’t have to deal with French Canadians unless you actually live in Quebec (or Ottawa), really. I’m sorry about your relatives, that’s a drag. Prime Minister Centrefold is okay so far. Bring your guns, just don’t carry them around with you and keep ‘em locked up at home. And yeah, a little chilly. Buy a toque and stop crying.
![]() 03/02/2016 at 11:55 |
|
You get what you pay for. Yours is pricey too for golden bottled water. 7% is quite common for our independent “craft” brewers if you are looking for strength. The selection of good beer down there is terrible, but I’ll agree, it’s crazy cheap.
![]() 03/02/2016 at 12:15 |
|
I’m in no way a Beer snob. I went through that phase when I was in my 20s-30s and don’t miss it.
Just looking at the Beer Store website shows MGD for $40.95 CAD on special. That’s 30.41 U.S.
I can get that same case of 24 for $18.99 at my local Grocery.
We have stores like Binny’s Beverage Depot that have a hell of a selection of beers. There’s no shortage of wallet draining “Craft” beer there.
![]() 03/02/2016 at 12:26 |
|
Oh how I long for a day when our Beer/Liquor stores aren’t government-run. :( Maybe I
should
move to Quebec! Can’t argue with 35% off our prices though. You win that round.
![]() 03/02/2016 at 12:43 |

For home internet, we have $60/month for unlimited data and 56 mbps download speed.

Come to the Okanagan! It’s half-way between Vancouver and Calgary, and in the summer, it looks like this.
Gorgeous, huh?
![]() 03/02/2016 at 13:54 |

I’m pretty sure my guns wouldn’t be legal in Canada, seeing as how theyre illegal in California. I’m also pretty sure a toque wouldn’t cut it. I get cold if it’s below 35 degrees C.
![]() 03/02/2016 at 14:24 |

They’re still a long way from Puget Sound. Nite that in that article they mention the actual names of the bodies of water around the city.
That's pretty amazing, no doubt.
